The Devil Wears Zara 馃摎馃憸馃懣

Hola! So how has my first week in Le贸n been so far? 馃嚜馃嚫 In general, Le贸n is a culturally beautiful city to live in and I am constantly in awe of its gothic cathedral that I walk past everyday to my school. I love living in Le贸n with my Le贸nite girls, they are super fun to live with. We lift each other's spirits and laugh about something different everyday. 馃槃

From trying to select our food in Spanish whilst giggling at the confused yet crazy waiters to running back to our residence in a thunderstorm- every day is an adventure with them! 馃グ⛈️ What else do I love about Le贸n? I like how I start at 8.50 and finish at 2pm, which means that I can plan all afternoon and rest or explore at night 馃寜 馃寵 I can't wait to explore Le贸n further in the next upcoming days - I am counting down until the weekend! 馃槃

Being truthful, I knew I would not struggle with homesickness. For me, it is attempting to teach the 
classes of my mentor/ teacher, who robs every chance of mine to teach. To begin with, I thought we had a great relationship, and we still probably do, but every time I suggest teaching a full or part of a lesson, she decides against it or has to 'think about it'. 馃槨 What is there to 'think about?'. Right now, her relationship with me in the classroom is definitely giving off Andy vibes from the movie 'The Devil Wears Prada'. No matter what I do, she does not give me an opportunity to teach! Maybe I am not as good as her 'native speaker' from Dublin, who teaches MY classes on Monday and Wednesday! 馃嚠馃嚜馃槓 Am I a Spanish teacher now?! Not to mention that she was angry because I tried to keep the Year 3 class occupied because she arrived late in the morning. As a filler, I brainstormed the topic of School and asked my class what subjects are taught and what places we can find in a school. I thought I did an amazing job considering I had no idea where she was! 馃槄 She thought otherwise because she shouted at me in front of the class and so I retreated to my seat 馃槰

Lesson 4 and I had the same Year 3 class for Art. As I was checking to see if my students were okay, one girl said to me, 'Shannon, I love English' with a beaming smile and wide eyes. 馃グ Out of everything, it was that precious moment and lunch with my fabulous Le贸nites that really turned my day around. 馃挏

I am determined to fight for my place in the classroom because that's where I belong! Tomorrow I am going to confront my teacher and be assertive in how I feel, after hearing Caro's wise words today 馃挆 I also have my first lesson observation with her too so I am using the fire that I have within me to fuel my lesson! ✨️馃敟 Overall, I am optimistic about my days ahead and I can only hope that things get better! As I am so tired, I am definitely going to take a nap and perhaps go exploring later with my Le贸nite girls :) I could do with a much-deserved break for planning so many unused lessons! 馃槍

Week one thoughts

  Week one complete! I still can’t believe it. It has gone so fast. So many emotions felt and so many memories made already. Every one of my classes has been perfect. The children are the sweetest and kindest, and they love asking me questions. One class really didn’t want me to leave, and two students wouldn’t let go of my arm haha. My favourite moment is when one girl keeps saying “Phoebe, I love” which melts my heart every time she says it <3. The teachers have been so helpful, advising me what lessons/ activities to do which will benefit the students more.  We had our first 'night out' on Friday too. I honestly couldn't have imagined a better group of friends to go out with. We danced the night away, headbanging to all sorts of music 馃槀 (which left me and Ella with the worst neck pain for a couple days). OMG! And so the adventure begins!!

  After sweating buckets from trolling around my inhumanly oversized suitcase onto a very busy train, I’m finally sat (at a table seat  馃槏 ), excited for this adventure to begin!  The last 24 hours have been hectic; final zoom calls, last minute Primark runs, rearranging and taking things out of my suitcase so it adheres to the weight limit, saying my final goodbyes to my family and friends (very emosh as I’m missing my grandmas 72nd) …the list could go on… Every time I go away, whether it be a weekend away in London, or a week by the beach in Turkey, I always seem to get emotional, mainly because of uncertainty; uncertain that something will go wrong at the airport, uncertain that I will miss my flight, uncertain that something bad will happen… but for some strange reason this time, I only feel excitement. Livin' on a Prayer ✨️馃檹馃徏

Hola! Lately, well today, I feel optimistic about my final week in Le贸n! 馃槉 We had a tour of Le贸n and we went inside the Cathedral! Very Gothic and tranquil馃槏  My  experience here has been a total roller coaster. A roller coaster where I'm strapped in tightly and I can't escape. Do I wish that my experience was better? S矛! Everyday I wish that my mentor was easier to work with and that she would allow me to take centre stage in the classroom. I wish that we had coffee and lunch outings too. It's close to week 4 and I guess this still remains an unanswered prayer. Do I have time to dwell on this though? No, I have no more tears to give nor am I afraid of her intimidating nature.
